WONING VAN WASSENHOVE

Een alleenstaande leraar genaamd Van Wassenhove, had een grote liefde voor moderne kunst en architectuur. Hiervoor bouwde architect Juliaan Lampens deze woning tussen 1972 en 1974. Het gebouw bestaat uit een combinatie van massief beton afwisselend met hout en glas. Doormiddel van het hout wordt de ruwheid van het beton doorbroken met warmte. Het glas zorgt voor afwisselend spel van licht doorheen het gebouw. Lampens herdefinieerd de gekende ervaring van wonen door alle verschillende woonfuncties in elkaar te laten overvloeien en geen aparte kamers te maken. Door te spelen met geometrische vormen en lijnen worden de verschillende woonfuncties gedefinieerd. De keuken is bijvoorbeeld driehoekig, de slaapruimte een cirkel en het bureau dan weer een vierkant. Momenteel is de woning in bruikleen aan het museum Dhondt-Dhaenens door de Universiteit Gent. Bovendien werd in 2017 de woning officieel benoemd tot een beschermd monument.

A single teacher called Van Wassenhove, had a great love for modern art and architecture. It was for him that architect Juliaan Lampens built this house between 1972 and 1974. The building consists of a combination of solid concrete alternating with wood and glass. By means of the wood, the roughness of the concrete is broken through with warmth. The glass provides an alternating play of light throughout the building. Lights redefine the familiar experience of living by allowing all the different residential functions to merge into one another and not creating separate rooms. By playing with geometric shapes and lines, the various residential functions are defined. For example, the kitchen is triangular, the bedroom a circle and the office a square. The house is currently on loan to the Dhondt-Dhaenens Museum by Ghent University. Moreover, in 2017 the house was officially named a protected monument.
