WONDERKAMER RESIDENCE

In 2018 toverde kunstenaar Hans Op de Beeck een villa uit de jaren ‘30 om tot een waar gesamtkunstwerk.  Dit in samenwerking met de architect Mo Vandenberghe (studio MOTO). De volledig zwarte “villa” dat wordt opgevat als eigentijdse “wunderkammer” vormt een plastisch, monumentaal sculptuur. Het interieur roept verwondering op door de volledig grijze bekleding en de vreemde kunstwerken die zowat overal en nergens tussen de bibliotheekcollectie van Jan Hoet te vinden zijn.  De wunderkammer dient niet alleen als onderdak voor deze verzameling van boeken, maar dus ook als residentie voor kunstenaars, curatoren onderzoekers en schrijvers. Zowel de toevallige voorbijganger en de bezoeker worden geprikkeld door dit kunstwerk, waar de beleving en ervaring van het verassende, en theatrale kunstwerk centraal staat. De wonderkamer is een onderdeel van het museum Dhondt-Dhaenens.

In 2018, artist Hans Op de Beeck transformed a villa from the 1930s into a true gesamtkunstwerk.  This in collaboration with the architect Mo Vandenberghe (studio MOTO). The completely black “villa” that is conceived as a contemporary “wunderkammer” forms a plastic, monumental sculpture. The interior evokes amazement because of the completely grey upholstery and the strange works of art that can be found almost everywhere and nowhere between Jan Hoet’s library collection.  The wunderkammer serves not only as a shelter for this collection of books, but also as a residence for artists, curators, researchers and writers. Both the casual passer-by and the visitor are stimulated by this work of art, where the experience and experience of the surprising and theatrical work of art is central. The wonder room is part of the museum Dhondt-Dhaenens.
