CREMATORIUM UITZICHT

Het nieuwe crematoriumgebouw ‘UITZICHT’ getekend door architectenteam Souto de Moura Arquitectos & SumProject, verzoent de technische aspecten die nodig zijn bij het uitvaartgebeuren en de exceptionele sfeer ervan. Ze ontwierpen een gebouw dat diep in de grond ligt waardoor het met zijn groen dak een geheel met de natuur, van de omgeving van de voormalige begraafplaats, vormt. Het gebouw is bereikbaar via een zachte helling. Het interieur, waaronder de banken, tafels, ruimtes, signlalisatie…,  is ook volledig vormgegeven door architect Souto De Moura. Zo vormt niet alleen het exterieur een sereen geheel met de natuur, maar ook met het interieur. Het crematorium bevat een voorplein waar plaats is voorzien voor een wandsculptuur van de Portugese kunstenaar Pedro Cabrita Reis. Dit sculptuur stelt een gedachtenismuur voor en heet ‘Looking at silence’. Bovendien is het crematorium UITZICHT bewust bezig geweest met milieustudies voor de vervuiling van de ovens te beperken. Ze beperken de uitstoot tot maar liefst minder dan de helft van de limiet die opgegeven is aan alle crematoria door VLAREM.

The new crematorium building ‘UITZICHT’ (‘VIEW’), designed by architect team Souto de Moura Arquitectos & SumProject, harmonises the technical aspects needed for the funeral and for its exceptional atmosphere. They designed a building that lies deep in the ground so that with its green roof it forms a whole with the nature, of the surroundings of the former cemetery. The building is accessible via a gentle slope. The interior, including the benches, tables, rooms, signposting…, is also completely designed by the architect Souto De Moura. In this way, not only the exterior forms a serene whole with nature, but also with the interior. The crematorium includes a courtyard with space for a wall sculpture by the Portuguese artist Pedro Cabrita Reis. This sculpture represents a wall of remembrance and is called ‘Looking at silence’. In Furthermore, the crematorium UITZICHT has been consciously engaged in environmental studies to limit the pollution of the ovens. They limit emissions to no less than half of the limit specified for all crematoria by VLAREM.
