In 1925 verhuisde het Bauhaus van Weimar naar Dessau . Het Bauhaus complex is opgericht in een soort van molenwiekpatroon van verschillende gebouwen, waaronder :

• Bauhaus School, met een vleugel waar studenten gebruik konden maken van allerlei machines, een vleugel voor theater voorstellingen, …

Op  uitnodiging van het Dessau stadsbestuur, ontwierp Walter Gropius een nieuwe soort kunstenschool waar ook een administratief gebouw en het architectenbureau van Gropius zelf aan werd gekoppeld.. Later werd in deze kunstenschool een architectuuropleiding opgenomen waar jonge mensen hun artistieke creativiteit konden ontwikkelen. De focus lag minder op individueel werk maar eerder op het bouwen van alledaagse objecten die ontwikkeld konden worden in samenwerking met de plaatselijke industrie.

In 1925 the Bauhaus moved from Weimar to Dessau. The Bauhaus complex is constructed in a windmill wing pattern with a selection of different buildings :

• Bauhaus School, with a section where students can use all kinds of machinery, a section for theatre performances….

Invited by the city council of Dessau, Walter Gropius designed a new kind of art school connected with an administrative building and also Gropius’ architectural office… Later an architectural study programme was integrated in this art school where young people could develop their artistic creativity. The emphasis was not particularly set on their individual work but rather  in building day-to-day objects which could be developed and produced  in cooperation with the local industry.
