DE KOMPAAN

DESIGN FOR SUSTAINABLE FOOD PRODUCTION & CONSUMPTION

De Kompaan is a public space where people come together. It is located in the middle of a neighbourhood in Borgerhout and is one with the environment. Their main goal is to bring people together with food as a tool.

Our task as a service design team is to create a service / tool around their initiative ‘Antwerpen plukt’.  Regarding this project they still have a lot of opportunities to grow regarding communication, practical thinking… This is where we come in as a design team and create a service which encompasses all these elements.

An exciting, hands on project which we are all really excited about to be a part of.

Many thanks to Carl for giving us this opportunity and putting his trust in us.

GENERAL DESIGN CHALLENGE

Our task as a design team is to create a service / tool around their initiative ‘Antwerpen plukt’. Regarding this project they still have a lot of opportunities to grow regarding communication, practical thinking… This is where we come in as a design team and create a service which encompasses all these elements.

Specific design challenge for this team:

‘Antwerpen Plukt’ is a highly seasonal project and is booming from the month of August until October. But how can Antwerpen Plukt stay relevant during off-season by keeping their contacts engaged & make new people warm?

Solution:

Their solution is the box of recommendations which is a collection of engagement concepts that can be used as an inspiration guidance or communication plan. The box exists of three detailed concept cards, six other proposals and a brochure. It collects answers that play a crucial role during off-season. The nine suggested initiatives not only focus on connecting people and strengthening the link between city and food, the total package can eventually help encouraging citizens and the city to stay or become part of ‘Antwerpen Plukt’.

Team – Fien & Charlotte

Specific design challenge for this team:

‘How can we create a tool for Antwerpen plukt which automates the booking system and encourages social interaction in and around the community while reducing food waste.’

Solution:

The website for Antwerpen Plukt provides a service which facilitates a general platform where enthousisasts can come to be informed. This website makes it easier for the organisers and enthousiasts to get involved and get to know practical details. This way internal and external communication will be improved.

Team – Emma, Iman & Liam

Specific design challenge for this team:

Antwerpen Plukt is a project that encourages people to get out of their house and engage with their community. The real challenge is attracting new volunteers and in order to do so, Antwerpen Plukt needs to increase visibility in the streets.

Thus, our design challenge is how to increase recognition on the streets while encouraging new volunteers to participate in the activities of Antwerpen Plukt.

Solution:

Increasing the trust amongst tree owners. Decreasing the barrier for new participants. Increasing visibility on the streets.

Team – Tözün & Yagiz
