DAYLIGHT: RETHINKING RELATIONSHIPS/CHANGING PERSPECTIVES BY PER OLAF FJELD
The Oslo School of Architecture & Design (AHO) presents a talk by professor emeritus Per Olaf Fjeld, available to watch from 07 June 2023.
The talk continues the 2023 series of ‘Daylight Talks’, organized by the VELUX Group. The talks explore the significance of natural light in architecture and will present prominent architects and educators working consciously and qualitatively with daylight in their projects and educational programmes.
The ‘Daylight Talks’ are organised by the VELUX Group in collaboration with individual schools of architecture and they are endorsed by the International Union of Architects (UIA) and the European Association for Architectural Education (EAAE).
The talk will focus upon the unique relationship between daylight as part of nature and architecture’s capacity to capture and utilize its distinct properties. Prompted by the changing needs and desires of society, this relationship is never static, but in constant transformation.
However, there is also an underlying transformation in relation to our changing perspectives of the natural world, and thus architecture will face many challenges ahead. Physical space is confronted by other different virtual spatial identities, and this challenges our use and relationship to daylight. To revitalize architecture, the use of natural light must redefine its precision.
